The apartment is located in the Oltrarno district of the historic city of Florence. The name "Oltrarno" literally means "beyond the Arno" and this district that extends along the south bank of the river represents a different facet of Florence than the one near the Duomo.
The Oltrarno perhaps displays the true character of Florence and is generally a little quieter, greener and more relaxed than other parts of Florence. Indeed, many tourists tend to choose the Oltrarno for this reason. Traditionally a district of artisans, the Oltrarno now has many antique shops and craftsmen's workshops (especially furniture and leather goods) and Via Maggio remains the center of interest of the flourishing trade of antiquities.
Over time, the Oltrarno has become a rather chic neighborhood and many aristocrats chose this area to build their villas and palaces, the largest of which was the Pitti Palace, which became the home of the various Grand Dukes. Today, this sumptuous palace is home to several important museums that rank among the best in Florence. The other major attractions of the Oltrarno are the Cappella Brancacci with the fabulous frescoes of Masaccio, Piazzale Michelangelo with its breathtaking views of Florence, the magnificent church of San Miniato, (one of the highest points of the city from Florence and also one of the best examples of Romanesque architecture in Tuscany) with Florence's most famous and oldest bridge, the Ponte Vecchio, which houses a glittering ensemble of jewelers and goldsmiths.
Stretching along the hill from the Pitti Palace, are the official Boboli Gardens, an open-air garden sculpture museum that includes Roman antiquities as well as works from the 16th and 17th centuries. Oltrarno is famous for its wine bars such as Olio & Convivium, authentic trattorias serving typical Tuscan cuisine, including Il Santo Bevitore, I 4 Leoni and Il Magazzino, not to mention the wonderful fresh produce market that takes place every morning in Piazza Santo Spirito. For those who choose an apartment in this area, the Oltrarno district also offers a choice of food shops, patisserie, bakeries, gift shops and much more.

The city center of Florence is a ZTL zone which means a "restricted traffic zone" and so special rules apply when you can enter this zone. This apartment is actually located in the ZTL area, which means that if you plan to come to Florence by car and want to walk around and park, you will have to pay close attention to traffic signs, CCTV cameras and access. cameras (they will show either a red / green light) in order to avoid getting fines.
