A worldwide event, the Cannes Lions Festival is the most prestigious event in the advertising sector. In order to establish the themes of the Cannes Lions, the organizers of the festival conducted extensive research. Feedback was gathered from more than 1,500 industry clients, as well as approximately 100 interviews with the industry's leading brand managers, marketing managers, creative directors and CEOs.

A 2020 edition that looks to the future.
The Cannes Lions will focus on eight themes, beginning with "Creativity as a driver of business growth. A first axis to explore the role of marketers in order to analyze how creativity can support short-term activities and maintain brand capital in the long term to grow its influence. The second theme, entitled "creative disruption of commerce" will focus on brands and retailers, pioneers of new forms of commerce.
Then, the responsibility, role and involvement of brands in major global issues, from climate change to inequalities, will be addressed through the means and changes implemented on a daily basis to contribute to them. The next theme will explore the link between the brand and the customer experience. The 5th theme will look at the next 10 years and explore the new skills needed to prepare and adapt for the future and how to attract and retain the best talent. The 6th theme "Applied creativity: when data, technology and ideas collide" will feature experts who will share examples on how to use data and technology to captivate the audience. The next theme will focus on the power of storytelling, through different types of formats and platforms, to attract attention. Finally, the final theme "Back to the Brand" will explore how to use creativity to strengthen the brand in the long term rather than obsessing over "clicks" and short-term effects.

More than 30,000 campaign registrations were counted, including advertising films, posters, ads, internet titles... 89 countries were in competition, 100 international brands were represented and more than 300 conferences were organized during 5 days. The Cannes Lions International Creativity Festival, formerly the International Advertising Film Festival, then the International Advertising Festival from 1992, when it opened its competition to print, was founded in 1954 by European film producers. Each year, it brings together the greatest professionals of the communication and advertising industry to reward creativity in the field. A total of 28 categories will be rewarded.
Among them, among others: "design", to attest to the strength of a brand's visual identity, the "cyber" category, to judge the creativity and effectiveness of a brand message conveyed via a digital channel, or "creative data", to evaluate the creative use of data. New for the 67th edition are the "Creative Business Transformation" Lions, which will reward creative businesses for adapting to new ways of doing business in response to the digital revolution.
Always focused on current and future challenges, gender parity in the selection of the 2020 jury presidents was respected for the first time in the history of Lions in Cannes. 53% of the presidents will be women, compared to 33% in 2019.
