Founded in the 5th century AD, Tbilisi is the capital of the Republic of Georgia and has a population of more than 1 million. It is located on the banks of the Koura River between the Greater Caucasus and the Lesser Caucasus. Its varied architecture reflects a long and complicated history with Russian and Persian domination. Between Eastern Orthodox churches, Soviet structures and richly decorated art nouveau buildings, the city will never cease to impress new travellers.
