Founded in 1566 as the "Very Humble City of Valletta", the capital of the Republic of Malta has a population of over 7,000 and is the island's cultural centre. Valletta is a small Baroque jewel of the Mediterranean and has managed to preserve all the authenticity of a fortified city.
